Do you spend a lot of time researching people on the Internet and still feel you are missing information on them?  Think to yourself that there has to be a faster way? Or that your target has to have a Facebook page, but you just can't find them? Then this course is for you.  We will enhance your skills and help you secure better results from the Internet and social media platforms to gain relevant information in less time. We will discuss the use of search operators, how to access social media content, including cross content postings (i.e., Instagram posts on Twitter feeds) using Google, and finding hidden data through the use of page source code.  You will learn how to locate, identify and then extract information directly from various social media platforms, like Facebook, Twitter & Instagram. An emphasis will be placed on Facebook, with instruction on how to cull data from seemingly private profiles, as well as an introduction into URL manipulation, showing how to locate profiles using non-traditional data. In addition to these search topics, we will discuss terms of service, covert profiles, the Deep Dark Web, and review a number of third party (mostly free) websites that can really help with an investigation.

Upon Completion of this course, the attendee should be able to:

  • Identify & utilize Boolean operators in basic & complex search strings
  • Isolate searches by document type, imagery, time, and particular website
  • Find social media information without leaving your search engine
  • Search comments on Instagram and find potential Instagram posts on private profiles
  • Use Twitter and Facebook as a Google substitute
  • Know what source code is and how to search it for hidden information
  • Find hidden Facebook profiles without using a name, address or email
  • Locate hidden Facebook information on a target, even when their profile is private
  • Use Twitter to set a geofence and find users & information
  • Better Understand privacy, hacking, and related laws/case law
  • Learn proper ways to validate online information
  • Create a covert profile and learn best practices
  • Understand the difference between the Surface, Deep, and Dark Web and what information is there
